The purists have lost. They cried, they whined, they articulated eloquently, threatened not to respect it and stuck their head in a hole in the ground thinking it would go away.

But it didn’t.

The ICC pimped it up, now it’s a $4 million prize money bomb with a two week fuse and only the real gunpowder test teams playing.

Except for the West Indies, they’re resting their real guns for the 2010 T20 jamboree. It’s the only format that matters and sending the replacement squirt gun squad is an act which puts forth just what they think about the only ICC trophy they’ve won in 25 years.

There’s just a week to go for the tournament to begin and the fantasy games are up on most sites. I’m giddy with excitement to see Australia not go into a tournament as overwhelming favourites. To see South Africa, India & Sri Lanka pose a legitimate threat based on their consistent cricket over the past season.

To see Pakistan as a genuine wildcard after their World T20 triumph, to see Bangladesh go into a tournament with confidence drawn from wins for a change.

As for England, NZ & WI, the only place to go from here is up and we’d all love it if that happens. Because then this stupid, needless tournament will truly be put to rest.

With all the injuries, contract disputes & losses of form, building a team hasn’t been as hard it usually is. I’ve put my money on my lot. Is your team ready?

Back To The Wall

Brows furrowed, Kris Srikkanth took a long hard drag on his cigarette. The soothing breeze blowing across the Besant Nagar beach was momentary relief, the sand it deposited in his shoes was trouble accumulating.

His fantasy team, the Chola Pandya Super Rebel Alliance had done well lately. There was the dominating pwnage of the erstwhile champions, the dramatic brushing aside of the past masters, the quelling of the neighbourhood contenders and even the successful conquest across the mighty ocean of the tenacious islanders.

Ashes Fourth Test At Headingley

It’s time for some tough love at the FCKingdom.

Time to crack the whips, kick out the jams and what not.

England have announced their squad for the fourth test at Headingley while the Australians are working overtime to get their preferred first line up out of the sickbeds and in working condition.

Both teams have their hands full with injury, form and balance problems. The biggest changes however depend on how brave the team managements are willing to be.

The teams clearly need to figure out who they’re getting in and who they’re dropping.
Sidebottom/Harmison for Flintoff/Swann, Trott for Bopara/Cook,   Lee/Clark for Siddle/Hauritz/Johnson, and Haddin for Manou are some of the combinations being tossed about.

All this suspense. So much nonsense.

So Much Cricket, So Little Fantasy

Dilhara Fernando makes sure that no one is watching while a henchman dressed as a physiotherapist beats the shit outta Mahroof clearing the path for Fernando's selection in all future matches.

Pakistan’s selection policy of late is of being so arbitrary that the opposition is startled into losing the match.

Sri Lanka’s determination to outdo the Pakistani’s this time has trumped their tendency to copy the opposition’s strategy,  just go at it harder and hope to be on top at the end. They’ve gone for the performers.

Of course this meant that most of my FCKing Dirty Dozen has been in the pavilion,  thinking of other such jargon filled stuff to say when someone sticks a mic in their face.

But now that they’ve lost the series, time for me to pick up the dead rubber bullies in my team.

Kulasekara & Thushara marked this series as their own. They’ve been the best besides Murali. Two not very highly valuated players who’ve delivered much beyond what was expected of them.

Sri Lanka Cricket owes their first home series victory in Tests & ODI’s over Pakistan to these two.

Fernando & Maharoof must be crying in each others arms right now.
